One of my newest pattern designs is a fun little tropical number called Calypso.

This tropical pattern design features a few of my botanical illustrations. I drew all of the elements either from life or from one of my photographs.

I used a combination of watercolour pencils (Caran D’Ache) and watercolour pan paint (Winsor & Newton), with a bit of bright pink ink thrown in (Dylusions ink spray).
I also really liked the idea of a neutral tropical leaf as a background, so painted a white leaf onto black paper using acrylic paint, which made it easy for scanning.

Calypso was created for one of the Spoonflower challenges, and the original design has a peachy background. I have since made a number of different coloured backgrounds which are all bright and pretty.

In fact, I loved the yellow ‘banana’ version so much that I had a jumper made through Printful. It has been the perfect jumper to wear on those cold miserable winter days… I really don’t like cold weather but this jumper makes me feel all summery!

Calypso is now available in my Spoonflower shop on a variety of fabrics, homewears, and as wallpaper. This super fun tropical pattern design is also available for licensing!
