I often like to reflect on my art style and my source of inspiration for pattern design. Most of the time this inspiration is nature – especially anything to do with the beach and ocean or the tropics.
The motifs I always seems to be drawn to are shells, palms, tropical flowers, reef fish, bright birds, underwater life and water movement.
So for this blog post I have put together a little gallery showing my photos next to pattern designs I have created. Some of these photos directly influenced the pattern design, whereas others unconsciously gave me ideas for patterns and colours which surprisingly turned out very similar to the photo.
My pattern designs are often quite vibrant and bold, which really reflects what I see of nature.

I hope you enjoyed this blog post about nature as inspiration for pattern design. I am currently working on my next set of patterns which are directly inspired by my underwater photography of sea creatures and their amazing colours and patterns. Make sure you join my mailing list to be the first to see my new pattern designs!
