For me, becoming a business owner is intertwined with having a child – I was the person who thought I’d take six months maternity leave then be straight back to my important & busy ecology job.
After my daughter was born I was suddenly home all day and even with a (slightly) premature newborn felt more relaxed than I had in a long time. I remember thinking I felt like I was on a holiday!
And being so relaxed and only needing to think of my baby and not a million things to do for work, I felt inspired to do art. I did little bits and pieces when I could, and took my time to slowly complete an online surface design course.
I started to really really enjoy this new version of my life, looking after my child and doing art when I had some free time.
So taking the leap into leaving my job once my maternity leave was finished, and deciding to start my own business while being a full time parent wasn’t that hard. Especially when I think back to all the professional development I did in my job – I lost count of the number of times I wrote down that I wanted to spend more time being creative.
Here is a little summary of what I feel the main positive changes have been to my life since deciding to become a business owner:

This awesome self-reflection activity was one of the recent weekly lessons from the Social Club Community – I highly recommend if you are looking for some structure and guidance for your social media (particularly Instagram). I really enjoyed this lesson so thought I’d share it here on my blog 😊
