Australian fashion label Gorman sent artists and designers everywhere into a spin with the recent announcement of their first ever Artist Search Competition.
Gorman is known for its playful and quirky designs and it would be an amazing opportunity to collaborate on a collection with them.
For my design entry, I wanted something fun, bright, and summery.
I spent a day of painting with some vibrant colours while listening to Pnau and Royksopp. By the end of the day I had created this abstract piece which I really liked:

I had a few ideas for what to pair with it but in the end I took advice from my sister who is a longtime Gorman fan. She suggested combining this abstract background with one of my more realistic illustrations. I am still in love with the parrot fish illustrations I did as part of my Tropical Art Challenge and decided to draw a couple more fish from my photographs:

And then by using the magic of Photoshop, I put the two different artworks together for my final piece, called ‘Parrot Fish Party’!

Voting is now open for the People’s Choice prize in the Gorman Artist Search Competition – I would love it if you could vote for my design!

Best of all when you vote you go into the draw to win a $2000 Gorman clothing voucher!
Voting closes 11.59pm AEST 14 June 2020 so get in quick! There are literally thousands of amazing entries – best of luck to everyone 🙂
