Girl and the Deep Blue Sea is a creative world shaped by the ocean, colour, and a love of everyday escapism. I create ocean-inspired art and surface pattern designs that celebrate the beauty of the natural world and bring colour, confidence, and joy into everyday life.
Based in Brisbane, my work is inspired by the beaches, reefs, and coastal landscapes I know and love – places full of colour, movement, and life.
My Story
Girl and the Deep Blue Sea began as a simple underwater and beach photography blog — a way to share the beauty of the ocean and its creatures.
Art has always been part of my life, along with a long-standing love of fabrics and patterns. When I was pregnant with my daughter, I discovered surface pattern design was something you could actually learn. After taking a short course, it quickly became clear this was the creative path I’d been looking for.
While my daughter was a baby, I taught myself surface pattern design and slowly shaped Girl and the Deep Blue Sea into what it is today — a world where art, pattern, and photography come together, inspired by the ocean and beaches I love.
What I create
I create original art and illustrations, surface pattern design, and photography. My process blends hand-painted elements, mixed media, and digital techniques, always guided by intuition, colour, and a strong connection to nature.
My work has been featured on swimwear and fashion products in Australia and the USA, and in international art projects and publications.
