Portrait of a bluebottle

Often maligned due to their stinging tentacles, I find bluebottles somewhat amazing- did you know they are not actually ‘one’ animal but a colony made up of various parts all functioning together to travel the oceans and find prey.

And the colours- wow! The most brilliant blues and purples with an iridescent shimmer in sunlight, bluebottles are the neon disco balls of the marine world!

After finding some quite large bluebottles washed up on the beach, I wanted to capture their colour and texture and hopefully their beauty.
